Some courses/certifications out there include:
- ISTQB Certified Tester
- Certified Software Quality Analysis
- Certified Software Test Engineer
Many companies also request the Six Sigma Certification.

Interesting stuff,
Its difficult to know what to study, developers have it easy as there is so much much they can study for. But testers can easily study the wrong thing!

I dont know guys, it all depends how much money you have at your disposal.
Rather look at the main courses that teaches you principles such as the ISTQB/ISEB courses. To study techniques would be a waste since techniques changes with each project/company. Rather invest in books to guide you on techniques then modify them to your needs.
To practice UAT well is to join the tester groups of some open source groups such as OpenOffice.org, Blender, Linux(Ubuntu is nice), GIMP. These are all products already in use so UAT will help you. UAT is also just following Business Processes/Rules so invest in a book maybe that summarizes the core/basic processes out there such as ticket purchasing, online bookings...
If you would like to stand out a bit more, study something related to your field such as geology, online banking, ethical hacking and securities, biology, aerospace, chemistry, CAD and Business Analysis.
Well, I hope this is a guide in a direction.

Hi everyone,
I recently had an interview with a company in America, and their testers said that they considered the American certifications a waste of time. I am not sure if that is a typical opinion though.

I seem to recall seeing some other certs on Google but they appear to be only in America, there certainly arn't any major certs, nothing like ISEB or ISTQB anyway.
I could be wrong though

Does anyone out there know if any qualifications/certs exist for pure QA or UAT?
Thanks,
